France's Tatiana Golovin wore red shorts under her skirt because "they say red is the color that proves you're strong and you're confident".
Venus Williams said "I really haven't played in shorts before, but my skirt was so big, I couldn't fit it, so I had to move to the shorts immediately."
Roger Federer wore customized Nike tennis shoes with his initials, some gold embellishments and mini-Swiss crosses on to represent his four Wimbledon victories.
"I think it's important to look good on the court. I think we could have better outfits on tour in general," said Federer.
"I see that players are more aware now of the details, that the headband matches with the shorts, so forth. I always thought that was important, you know, that the whole entire outfit matches together."
It's all about the game but the game of fashion and style always at least gets sideline attention and this year's Wimbledon is no different. Tuesday, Maria Sharapova got noticed for her "swan dress" along with her on court finesse, and Venus Williams wore shorts as brief as her 6-2, 6-2 win over 170th-ranked Hana Sromova. The focus on the tennis outfits is usually on the women players but Roger Federer made sure the men were sartorially represented by wearing customized shoes.
As Tatiana Golovin fielded numerous questions about choosing the red shorts as part of her Wimbledon attire, to the question "Do you get the chance to shop a lot?" Golovin answered, "I'm from Paris." Lucky Girl!

From FemaleFirst, we get Sienna Miller's fashion philosophy. A girl after my own heart when it comes to choosing what to wear. She does her own thing so that makes me look forward to her and bona-fide designer sister Savannah's fashion line Twenty8 Twelve. I hope it has its own signature look and shows creativity. Can't wait! (click on thumbs for bigger picture)
Style icon and actress Sienna Miller revealed her love of fashion recently. The ‘ Factory Girl’ star insisted that although she loves clothes, she is not that fashion conscious. She said;" I know what I like to wear and I enjoy shopping. But I don’t like to look too ostentatious or too glamorous; I‘m a bit scruffy."
Miller is currently planning to launch her new fashion line Twenty8 Twelve with her designer sister Savannah. Her style is inspired by music, art and moments – she said." I went to the Sickert and Degas exhibition the other day and I suddenly wanted to get a top hat and a frilly skirt" "It’s more about how it makes me feel, as opposed to how it affects other people."

Ashlee Simpson has been exercising her fashion chops lately and what can I say,… here she arguably has a success as she attends the Us Magazine Hot Hollywood Party. Not only is the outfit spot-on but her face and body language express a grace and elegance associated with couture fashion or high fashion. The gray is understated, the accessories simple and I love that the candy apple red shoes just make the whole outfit pop. Take a look at her Harper's Bazaar cover and spread to see more of Ashlee Simpson's new style. A Fashion Hit.

Some news outlets are claiming that the Kate Moss clothing line sold at TopShop in the UK is far from the runaway success hoped for, indicated by sales that went for below retail on eBay. From personal experience, I can tell you that eBay is very much a shoppers paradise and very often a hit-and-miss proposition for sellers. The laws of supply and demand prevailed as 3,500 items from the Kate Moss inspired line were placed for auction. It isn't clear if the eBay sellers were by individuals seeking a profit making opportunity or people from TopShop themselves. The clothing line largely consists of dresses tees and jeans and is meant to be a "walk into Moss' wardrobe".
The long and short of it: Best sellers in London and Paris. Good reviews in London and tepid reviews in New York. And on eBay, well.. furious sells and then a lull. The quality of the design and construction of the clothes will be the best indicator for the long run. Kate Moss certainly adds publicity and hype. But all labels need marketing (see my many upcoming posts on emerging designers!), but at the end of the day it is all about quality to determine if this line has staying power. Gwen Stefani's label L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers is an example of this.

This month's Harper's Bazaar Magazine speculated that the pixie haircut may be a trend to emerge this summer. But how likely is it to happen? Michelle Williams recently cut her locks into this pixie do, as seen at the Indie Awards.

However, she has added hair extensions during the shoot of the film Incendiary in London but I think she really did pull off the pixie-cut look. The baton, for now will have to be passed to next-top-models, Agynes Deyn and Cecilia Mendez, two much-in-demand models who have a fan base. (Harper's Bazaar mentioned Agynes Deyn as a model creating buzz for this look) Actors and Performers lead trends more so than models now, compared to the the Supermodel era of the 1980's and 1990's and the person who popularized belly baring tops may get in on this possible trend also.

The site LaineyGossip.com has scoop that none other than Britney Spears is preparing for a photo shoot that features her clean cut new look. (You can see her new growth underneath the wig in the first photo) In any event, that's one photo editorial I'd like to see . Maybe she can pull it off – maybe as well as the others have since she is said to be tiny in person and is getting back into shape. A woman often critiqued for her fashion sense, and who likes faeries may be at the head of the pixie cut trend – if there is one. Only time will tell. But as the summer heats up, a cool hair style like this could be oh so freeing. (as usually the case, click on thumbs for full size pics)

Attention Fashion and Apparel Business Insiders…
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa plans to set up a Fashion Advisory Council made up of a cross section of representatives of the Los Angeles fashion industry.
Cynthia M. Ruiz and Sabrina Kay are helping find members of the committee, which is expected to advise the mayor on issues of importance to the fashion industry, including areas of improvement and ways to strengthen the fashion business in Los Angeles.
Ruiz is the president of the Board of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles, and Kay is the chairwoman and chief executive of Fashion Umbrella LLC, a Los Angeles branding and marketing firm that helps California companies break into the Asian market through Fashion Umbrella’s LA designs boutiques located in department stores in Shanghai and Seoul.
“The purpose of the Fashion Advisory Council is to bring members of the fashion industry together to bring input and to have the mayor work in partnership with the fashion industry,” said Ruiz.
“The mayor is committed to and interested in the fashion industry. He knows what an economic engine fashion is in L.A.”
Kay and Ruiz are looking for “fashion-industry stakeholders,” including manufacturers, designers, stylists, buyers, factors, lawyers, accountants, textile industry professionals and others in the industry. The two anticipate the council will have 20 to 30 members, who will meet biannually to discuss the industry’s current issues and concerns. They will be gathering letters of intent from potential applicants through June, in the hopes of having the council up and running by Los Angeles Fashion Week next fall.
“The fashion industry should be excited that we have so much of the mayor’s attention,” said Kay.
Anyone interested in being considered for the council can send a letter of intent to: Kent Smith, executive director of the Los Angeles Fashion District Business Improvement District, 110 E. 9th St., Suite A1175, Los Angeles, CA 90079, or to Krista Kline, a member of the mayor’s business team, at City Hall, 200 N. Spring St., 13th Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Ashlee Simpson looks like a forlorn little girl, (albeit a stylish one), in the above photo by including sheer below the knee socks in her outfit. Another celebrity style winner is Rose McGowan in her colorful coat and contrasting textured fur (faux fur?) collar. Steal their style and usually at sale prices this time of year!
In emulating Ashlee Simpson’s style I thought I’d reverse the curve a bit, and I would choose brightly colored coats and would pair the coat with a more muted handbag. And as far as clearance sales and next season’s styles clashing with the previous season’s. I keep those in my closet because you can re-do most things to make them work and look curent ( big Isaac Mizrahi show fan here, check it out on the style network) and also keep those sale items because it’ll prob. be ‘vintage’years from now. pictures: hollowoodrag.com , teddyandmoo.com

These two women know how to make the rocker bad boy style their own. They each give a feminine twist to the rocker style: Gwen Stefani adds ballet flats to her black skinny jeans, grommet-ed belt and semi-cropped jacket and Lindsay Lohan wears white skinny jeans and a long-sleeved black tee and touches the outfit up with bubble gum pink nail polish. And of course each has those cool dark shades. Now that's what I call Girl Rock! (Click on thumbnails for a bigger photo.)
