Celebrities and H&M Support Fashion Against AIDS Campaign

Prominent designers, artists and musicians are donating their passion and creative talent for an exemplary project, Fashion Against AIDS.

H&M and the non-profit group, Designers Against AIDS, are collaborating in this campaign with the artists to promote a range of T-shirts, tank tops and hooded sweaters. The garments designed by the diverse group of artists are to support the campaign to promote awareness of HIV and AIDS among the world’s young people. The targeted group is 15-24 year-olds who make up 50% of new HIV cases.

This gifted and giving group include Rihanna, Chicks on Speed,Good Charlotte, Henrik Vibskov, Jade Jagger, Justice, Tiga, Ziggy Marley, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, The Cardigans, Katharine Hamnett, Timbaland, Nina Persson and My Chemical Romance. Each of the artists gave their time and effort in the project free of charge and 25% of proceeds will go to HIV/AIDS prevention.

Star Power Behind Fashion Against AIDS Campaign

Rihanna, Timbaland, Good Charlotte, Rufus Wainwright, Chicks on Speed, Nina Persson, Katharine Hamnett and Ziggy Marley give motives and personal stories behind the designs for their shirts, hoodies and tees for the Fashion Against AIDS clothing line.

H&M in conjunction with the nonprofit group Designers Against AIDS, developed the campaign to bring awareness worldwide about HIV/AIDS prevention. The collection will be available in stores in February.

WordPress Hoodies

I've sorely missed writing about fashion, but between software and hardware issues (with a very limited budget) I've had no choice but to be patient.

Since I have been heavily involved in climbing the learning curve when it comes to all things tech, My first post in a while should be on these WordPress Hoodies. Wal-Mart Lighting Follow Up Post

I recently wrote about lighting at stores and how it effects the retail environment and mood. In a follow-up to a story I  posted, Wal-Mart, Fashion and Lighting, I came across a related article about Wal-Mart's plan to find "better (energy-efficient) ways to illuminate a store".  In a move that is certainly "on-trend" the retailer is mulling over "more–environmentally friendly ways of lighting up a space".

On Nov. 1, Wal-Mart announced at a meeting of U.S. mayors in Seattle that it would partner with the former president’s (Bill) Clinton Climate Initiative to help identify green technologies and to bring down the price of eco-friendly products such as energy-efficient building materials and lighting systems.

 

More than a mere trend this is a change with substance.  States such as California are looking at changing energy efficiency requirements for residential and nonresidential buildings. Retailers are considering LED lighting, halogen lighting and natural light to conserve energy.

Fashion boutiques often use halogen infrared reflecting lamps for accent lighting with an energy-efficient touch. Peake is president of The Lighting Collaborative Inc., a Tustin, Calif.–based lighting education group and a consultant for Southern California Edison.

According to lighting consultant Kathleen Peake, though the California law does not specify a particular lighting technology, most retailers use LED lights for landscape lighting. The benefits of LED lights include an efficiency 90% greater than halogen, and are long-lasting (more than 50,000 hours) and do not create heat.

In the wake of the controversy that has come to press about Wal-Mart, it would be good public relations to install environmentally-friendly lighting. This is a benefit that is in addition to cost-efficiency and of course satisfying legal requirements in some states. 

Eco-fashion is growing in popularity and news of  Wal-Mart being more environmentally responsible will make for good PR buzz. And at this time of high energy and fuel costs many home owners are acutely aware of the sensible aspect of this.  Get some ultra-cool and efficient lighting for your home and "dressing room space", turn the furnace down and with the money you save buy a luxe cashmere sweater to keep you warm.

Project Runway Season 4

Just saw Heidi Klum On Ellen and caught most of the interview. Happy home-life with Seal and babies – Britney Spears inviting herself to Heidi’s Halloween party were topics of conversation. Heidi Klum’s dry wit about being instructed by Britney Spears on the finer points of diapering when the pop star crashed her Halloween party, to me, was rather amusing. Fun interview.. bright personalities, Ellen Degeneres and Heidi both. Project Runway Season 4 debuts tomorrow, arguably the most anticipated fashion reality show. Caring for Designer and High-End Fashion Pieces

High-end and designer clothes and luxury items for our home are for most of us a splurge we treat ourselves to now and then. These are investment pieces for your wardrobe and if you pay designer prices for designer clothes, shoes and accessories you surely want them to last, looking as good in the future as they do now.

I absolutely adore cashmere and subsequently noticed a line of luxury fabric care products and detergents, The Laundress, developed by Lindsey Wieber and Gwen Whiting. They should know their stuff -  they were educated in Textile and Apparel Design and Management at Cornell University.

 I live in a smallish town and I can find high-end goods here and of course online but fabric and clothing care items are not as easy to find in my town. Thankfully, many brick-and-mortar and online clothing boutiques that sell luxury apparel also carry the specialty fabric care items you would need to care for pricey purchases.

Make a Fashion Statement with Cowboy Boots

Cowboy boots aren't just for the boys. Cowboy boots, like jeans, are one of those rustic fashion items that can be femmed up, embellished or worn in all the glory of their original, traditional design and that also that can be paired with casual or dressy clothes.

There are all kinds of western boots styles for different tastes and looks. Exotic skin cowboy boots, roper western boots (which are shorter and have a more rounded toe), smooth leather, distressed leather, retro design,  pointed toe or rounded toe designs and eye-catching hues such as pink and red are examples of the diverse styles. Also equally numerous are ways to pair this key fashion item with your outfit. Wear them with above the knee flowing dresses and skirts for a feminine look that also accentuates the boots. Skinny jeans tucked in cowboy boots or worn under boot-cut or flare jeans can be paired with almost any style top for different looks.

For the most fierce fashionista western boots can add that needed flare to your duds. But let's not forget the boys. My husband is a 'fashionisto' and wore cowboy boots at our wedding with his tux and charcoal gray morning coat. I must say he looked nice! He loves well made shoes and cowboy boots are always on his gift wish list. 

Not intending to 'steal his style" I thinks he would love to get me a gift certificate for these beauties. I especially like the ones on the left, the Dingo fringed boot. The holidays will be here soon so I think am going to have to start dropping hints!
