Be on Tommy TV – Tommy Hilfiger music site

This is the sort of find that is sure to get me inspired to blog again on a regular basis. The video below is of Julie Corrigan singing  "Angel" for a contest held by Tommy Hilfiger and Sony, in which the winner will perform at a live event and gain exposure. 

TommyTV.com  launched about 2 months ago and the site features established recording artists and also bring attention to unsigned musicians and singers. (Read more about this project at mtv.co.uk).

Fashion and music have, for many years, influenced one another. The Fashion Rocks event which precedes New York Fashion Week is the highest profile event that synthesizes this collaborative, symbiotic relationship. Hilfiger and Sony with the Hilfiger Sessions project have further defined and invigorated this relationship.

Listen to Julie Corrigan's rendition of "Angel" (I promise it is well worth a listen!). Share this video and/or upload your own song if you wish.

FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach 2008

Fashion style and trend news and events have been occurring at a persistently frenetic pace. So what do you do when you haven’t posted in forever and your very busy and you just have little time? A picture ( i.e. video) is worth a thousand words!

To prime the pump, jump start the figurative battery … or get me in the frame of mind to start writing again I am posting this video of the Funkshion fashion show at Fashion Week in Miami Beach. A fun, up-beat video that shows what this music-fashion event is all about. Excerpts from the press release for the March 26-29, 2008 fashion show is below in case you haven’t heard.

(March 3rd, 2008, Miami Beach, FL) – It should be no surprise that a leading trend market like Miami Beach has proven a need for a fashion week to call their own. As with every year, FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach, will fuse music, fashion and like no other city in the world could do. 

This is Fashion Week – MIAMI STYLE! FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach celebrates its 10th season with one of the most impressive line-ups in recent years. The court yard and main fashion venues will be real grass as FUNKSHION strongly supports Eco movement. FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach will open on March 26th with a presentation of an official Proclamation of FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach by the newly inducted Mayor of Miami Beach Matti Bower.

The Proclamation ceremony will be followed by a spectacular showcase by Jennifer Lopez’s high end line Sweetface at the Setai Hotel. In the days following opening night, FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach will move locations to the Setai Hotel to host the world renowned designer Fisico by Cristina Ferrari from Milan Italy. Other highlights in the tents on Ocean Drive are Justin Timberlake’s clothing line, William Rast, the debut of Russell Simmons new Argyle line, as well as Puma, Caroline D’ Amore, LE JEAN DE by Marithé François Girbaud.

Closing nights shows in the tents will feature Heatherette (they chose this year to do only FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach over NY and LA’s Fashion Weeks) and the Jockstarzz Fashion Show Benefiting the Kevin Everett Foundation, which will bring some of the nation’s biggest National Football League (“NFL”) players together to tackle the runway for a one-night-only charity event and fashion show. During this charity show, super producers Cool and Dre will mix it up on the runway as they debut their clothing line Dirty Royalty.

FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach is a four day long event that provides an intelligent, innovative platform for progressive, established, and emerging designers to showcase their collections to media, celebrities, international buyers, and select style makers. FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach will celebrate the energy and substance of style across classes and cultures.

The shows are geared towards designer diffusion collections and innovative lifestyle brands. Designers will integrate music into their shows, many personally selecting their favorite celebrity DJs to preside over their runway spectacles FUNKSHION: Fashion Week Miami Beach has harnessed the curiosity and support of established and emerging talent from the international fashion and lifestyle arenas.

The Oscar red carpet arrivals are moments away and just as the glitz and glamour take work behind the scenes to have the whole event hum along smoothly, a website has to have the ‘engine’ behind what you see on a website run smoothly. I am far from a developer and have been working to rid the bugs from the software that powers this site. Let’s hope things work at least for a while….maybe then I’ll have the pictures up for the Academy Awards Red Carpet arrivals! Kirsten Dunst guest designer for Lutz + Patmos

Look for the collaboration of Kirsten Dunst with cashmere label Lutz + Patmos to debut Sunday, February 3, at the New Museum.

Dunst, who is currently appearing in Miu Miu's spring/summer 2008 ad campaign, is known for her quirky, offbeat style and has, for some time, had an interest in launching her own fashion line.

Lutz + Patmos have previously worked with celebrities including Liv Tyler, Julianne Moore (see below). These creations are to benefit a designated charity as the following encapsulated statement of the philosophy of the guest designer declares: (from lutzandpatmos.com)

’15 Minutes of Fame’ Redux: The MicroCelebrity and T-shirts

Myspace celebrities, Youtube celebs … Andy Warhol has never seemed more prescient than now, the age of the internet, when he made his statement that “in the future, everyone will be (world) famous for fifteen minutes”. Australian “Best Party Evah” kid has seemed to acquire this dubious sort of fame with his semblance and catch-phrase printed on a message T-shirt at BustedTees.com The 16-year old Aussie shirt-sunglasses kid threw a get-together that spiraled out of control and from there the rest is history…

Of course you can have a fame of your own, at least among your circle of friends and family. At CafePress.com the public is able to have customized merchandise made like t-shirts, hoodies, hats, calenders, posters, print-on-demand books, audio and data Cds/DVDs and such. Many, many possibilities for products to sent to your circle … pictured, gifts, birth announcements, staying in touch etc.

They even offer an online shop to sell your creations to the general public. I think this is great idea because there are no upfront costs and it is an economical way for fashion students, struggling designers, or anyone who has a design idea to create a buzz for their product. As someone with ” no. budget. whatsoever. ” for any ventures, I see this as an amazing opportunity for new ideas to get noticed. You can also promote you business or charitable cause this way. Writers, artsists, musicians, whomever can just upload their idea or artwork, et voila! Cool.

Dita Von Teese To Design Vintage Inspired Lingerie

Glamor, seduction, style, allure…yep, I think they picked the right person in Dita Von Teese to design and front a limited edition lingerie collection for Wonderbra. The designs will be based on 1940s lingerie styles and vintage underwear fashion. The collection will be made up of three themes, or stories, revolving around her love of glamor and forties lingerie. I predict this will be a best seller (Tiny waistline not included). The collection will arrive in stores in the U.K and France in September.

So, what did 1940's lingerie look like? The third photo above, on the right is a brassiere ad from the forties. The advertisement shows a cone or bullet shaped bra typical of that era. Get an idea of perhaps what to expect from Von Teese's collection – below a video which shows a lingerie fashion show circa 1940s.

Men’s Designs for Fashion-Against-Aids Campaign

Several well-known figures use the gift of their talents and fame to promote the Fashion Against AIDS campaign, a collaboration of H&M and the non-profit group Designers Against AIDS. This fashion line for a good cause is comprised of T-shirts, hoodies and tank tops and consist of a men's collection and a women's collection.

Specially designed prints for the men's collection by Jade Jagger, Justice, Katharine Hamnett, My Chemical Romance, Scissor Sisters, Tiga, Timbaland, Henrik Vibskov are showcased below:

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds go to HIV/AIDS prevention worldwide and all artist donated their time and efforts free of charge. The collection will be available in February.

Women’s Designs for Fashion-Against-Aids Clothing Line

There is no better use of the gift of talent than to use that talent to do good. Chicks on Speed, Good Charlotte, Jade Jagger, Katharine Hamnett, Ziggy Marley, Timbaland, Henrik Vibskov, Rufus Wainwright designed the T-shirts and tank tops below as part of the women's collection for the Fashion Against AIDS campaign to help draw attention to this cause. The entire collection also includes designs for men and consists of T-shirts, hooded sweaters and tank tops.

Margareta van den Bosch, H&M's head of design, said the collection is "rich in color, with considerable commitment going into every garment. The artists have created personal prints with a strong sense of style."

“Fifty per cent of the people newly infected with HIV are aged between 15 and 24. There’s an urgent need to do something in this target group. By combining fashion with music in this way we hope to get these young people to ‘stop and think’, as Katharine Hamnett puts it on one of the garments in the collection,” says Ninette Murk, the founder of DAA.

Each item of clothing has a label in the neckline that identifies the designer of the print, are made from 100% organic cotton and have a special hang tag attached with the words “This might be the most important piece of clothing you’ve ever had your hands on.” printed on it. The collection will be in stores in February.
