Fashionista to Recessionista – Tips On Shopping Vintage

Posted by Sarah on January 27th, 2009

All of the time spent trawling thrift stores for fashion finds is a hobby that has proven useful in these tighter economic times.  If I visited another city, one of my “touristy” things to do was to seek out local thrift stores.  Sugar Rock Catwalk gives basic advice on buying vintage clothes in the video below.

Also check out my previous post Designer Fashion On A Budget for more tips such as looking for outlet stores and rag trade districts in “fashion mecca cities”  and shopping for higher-end and designer labels at thrift stores in wealthy areas .   Some of these clothing and accessory items are like new (I remember a wealthy celeb saying that they wear their red carpet dresses only once).

Even when the economy improves, thrift store shopping can be fun as well as frugal.  Of course there is the “thrill of the chase” for serious bargain hunters as well as  the possibility of acquiring clothing and accessories that are stylish and fairly unique.  With a bit of luck, knowledge and a careful eye thrifting and vintage shopping can keep the stylishly inclined on budget.
